Building Your Client Base

A planned approach, consistency and effort (just keep on going!) will pay off!

Having launched my marketing business only a short time ago, I am now very much in the ‘Attract New Clients’ phase!  You may also have started a new business, or are planning to grow your existing business, and so it will also be crucial for you to attract new clients.  Growing a client base is a critical aspect of business development, but it is tough going!  To assist you in this phase, we recommend you consider your market and your target consumer in preparing to grow your client base.  There are many different strategies you can undertake, and the type of business and characteristics of your target consumer will dictate which are most effective.  Here are some thoughts and ideas to consider:

Search Engine Optimisation

·       Google Business Profile:  Make sure your business is listed with Google (it is amazing how many businesses are not!), and that your profile is verified and optimized.  This will help ensure your business pops up when potential clients type in a search for your product or service.

·       Run a website SEO audit:  Most website platforms have an inbuilt SEO audit feature.  Once you run the audit, you will understand if there are any features of your website that could be strengthened or corrected in order to optimise your website SEO.

Online Presence

  • Website:  Consider the experience a potential new customer might have when visiting your website.  Is the content interesting and engaging?  Is it easy to navigate through your website?  Is your website offering up information that might answer a prospective new client’s questions?  If your website is not delivering on these points, you may want to consider and update.  This will ensure that any new traffic to your site will be impressed and engaged, and you will have a much better chance of winning over a new client.

  • Content Marketing: Create valuable content like blogs, e-books, and videos to attract and engage potential clients.

  • Social Media Marketing: Use platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to connect with your audience and share your expertise.

Referral Programs

  • Incentivize Referrals: Offer discounts or bonuses to existing clients who refer new customers.

  • Create a Referral Network: Partner with complementary businesses to exchange referrals.

Networking and Partnerships

  • Attend Industry Events: Participate in conferences, trade shows, and local business events.

  • Join Professional Associations: Become an active member of industry-related organizations.

  • Collaborate with Influencers: Work with industry influencers to reach new audiences.

Targeted Advertising

  • Paid Search Ads: Use Google Ads or Bing Ads to target specific keywords related to your services.

  • Social Media Ads: Run targeted ads on platforms where your audience is most active.

  • Retargeting: Use retargeting ads to reach visitors who have previously interacted with your website.

Email Marketing

  • Build an Email List: Collect email addresses through sign-up forms and lead magnets.

  • Send Regular Newsletters: Share updates, insights, and promotions to keep your audience engaged.

Customer Engagement

  • Personalized Service: Tailor your services to meet the specific needs of your clients.

  • Feedback and Improvement: Regularly seek client feedback and use it to improve your offerings.

  • Client Appreciation: Show appreciation through thank-you notes, special offers, or exclusive events.

Community Involvement

  • Local Sponsorships: Sponsor local events, sports teams, or community initiatives.

  • Volunteer Work: Engage in community service and promote your business’s involvement.

Educational Workshops and Webinars

  • Host Free Workshops: Offer free workshops or webinars to showcase your expertise and attract potential clients.

  • Collaborate with Experts: Partner with other professionals to co-host events and expand your reach.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Form Alliances: Partner with businesses that complement your services to reach a broader audience.

  • Cross-Promotions: Collaborate on joint promotions or campaigns.

Client Success Stories

  • Case Studies: Create detailed case studies that highlight successful projects and satisfied clients.

  • Testimonials: Collect and showcase client testimonials on your website and marketing materials.

Special Offers and Promotions

  • Limited-Time Discounts: Offer special promotions to attract new clients.

  • Free Trials: Provide a free trial or sample of your services to potential clients.

Market Research and Analysis

  • Identify Your Ideal Client: Understand who your ideal clients are and tailor your marketing efforts to reach them.

  • Analyse Competitors: Study your competitors to find gaps in the market that you can fill.

Implementing a combination of these strategies can help you effectively grow your client base. The key is to stay consistent, measure the success of your efforts, and be willing to adapt your approach as needed. We hope this information is helpful to your business.
